G H E E

What is ghee? Ghee is clarified butter that has been cooked to eliminate lactose, casein, whey protein and trace minerals. This makes ghee tolerable for the majority of those who are lactose intolerant. In Ayurveda, it is revered as a golden gift for its myriad benefits. My favorite benefits of ghee come from the art of cooking with it. When cooking meals with ghee, your bodily tissues are better equipped to absorb the properties of your spices and foods, thus maximizing your opportunity for healing. Ghee can also use be used during a traditional Ayurvedic cleanse to breakdown ama (toxins) in your digestive tract. According to the Chakaka Samhita, a classical text of Ayurveda, ghee can improve...

Being an Ayurvedic Practitioner, I have been cooking with ghee for some time. I recently learned in my Ayurvedic Specialist course the benefits of using it during an Ayurvedic cleanse. A traditional Ayurvedic cleanse has three parts to it that can vary in length based on your dosha/constitution. Part one of an Ayurvedic cleanse, Purva Karma, is performed to draw the toxins from your tissues into your digestive tract. This is best done through an elimination diet that is clean of alcohol, processed foods, dairy, wheat, sugar, drugs, etc. In the second part of a cleanse, Pradhna Karma, a mono-diet of kitchari is administered with an increasing daily dose of ghee every morning. Taking ghee on an empty stomach allows your body to loosen up sticky toxins that now reside in your digestive tract. At the end of the Pradhna Karma, a Pancha Karma treatment is practiced to fully eliminate all the toxins loosened up. The final part of the cleanse, Praschat Karma, is the slow reintroduction of foods back into your diet to rekindle your digestive fire and rebuild your strength.

I am currently in the Pradhna Karma part of my cleanse and feel a glowing complexion from my medicated ghee. I made my own Shatavari ghee to bring healing to my reproductive organs. Shatavari helps to heal a wide range of women health issues such as PMS, amenorrhea, vaginal dryness, infertility... just to name a few!

If you feel inspired to start incorporating ghee into your diet, Banyan Botanicals has the best ghee around. You can order online at their website or on Amazon. What do you think about ghee? Do you already incorporate it into your diet? Send me your thoughts <3.
